Case Studies
Fit Bug Pedometer Case
Overview & Objectives -
A
marketing communications firm was spearheading the
US roll out of a personal fitness monitoring devise.
This is a high end product with special features
such as internet interfacing and data evaluation by
personal trainers that add real value; a product
that called for a case that enhanced the perception
of quality and at the same time added good
functionality.
What would it look and feel like? How would
perspective buyers use it every day?
What would keep them using it long term? And how
would you accomplish these objectives within a
realistic budget?
The Achievement -
After gathering design ideas from the customer and
investing time researching what was currently on the
market, the LPI project team went through several
iterations of prototypes, material testing and a
number of refinements to achieve the final workable
design. Not readily visible in the photo is the
instructional CD, a set of tabbed progress tracking
cards, the connecting cords neatly tucked behind an
insert panel and the black elastic cord that ensures
that the product will not shift during transit.
Although initially awarded only the design and
production of the cases, growing customer confidence
allowed LPI to capture the kitting, UPC coding,
packaging and shipping of the entire project of
5,000 initial units.
This is another example of working with high end
substrates, Touché Cover again, and the need for
creative and resourceful thinking and team work.
Plans are already in motion looking ahead to larger
quantity reruns in 2006.
